Out of Salamanca
There are lots of places of interest in the province of Salamanca. It is easy to get there and you will enjoy history, culture and nature. Here are some suggestions!
- Valladolid: it is a modern city but it also preserves some interesting monuments such as the Cathedral, the XV century University and Cervantes House where Columbus died. You can also admire several churches such as S.Pablo, Antigua, Magdalena, Vera Cruz.
- Zamora: it is called “Museum of Romanesque Art”. It preserves 24 amazing Romanesque churches which dates back to the XII and the XIII centuries, such as its wonderful XII century cathedral. Do not miss the Castle, El Parador de Zamora also known as Palacio de los Condes.
- Segovia: it is worldwide known for its amazing Roman Acqueduct. It was built in the I century by the emperor Traiano. Visit Calle Cervantes and do not miss the fairy Alcazar.
- Ávila: it is known for its amazing medieval city wall. It is 2 kilometres long and it has 9 entrances and 88 towers. It is known all over the world as the birth place of S. Teresa of Avila.
- Ciudad Rodrigo: it is one of the biggest town of the province of Salamanca and it is only 20 kilometres away from Portugal. It preserves some beautiful monuments such as the Cathedral of Santa Maria. The city has narrow streets which creates quite a labyrinth.
- Sierra de Francia: it is close to Sierra de Béjar and you will surely enjoy breathtaking views over the mountains and the valleys.
- Sierra de Bčjar: Béjar, which is a lovely city of the province of Salamanca, is surrounded by the mountains known as Sierra de Béjar. If you want to visit the city, do not miss Convento de San Francisco and Mateo Hernández Museum.
- Persorso del Duero: if you follow the River Duero you will find a beautiful natural area known as Arribes del Duero.
