Plaza de Anaya
It is located in front of the New Cathedral and it is one of the most lively walking areas of the city

The Cathedral
The cathedral of Salamanca consists of two cathedrals: the Romanic XII century old cathedral and the Gothic XVI century new cathedral. You can admire the amazing Capilla Dorada which hosts sculptures realized by famous arists. You can get a genearl view of both cathedrals from the Patio Chico, the lovely little square, which is reached from the south doorway of the new Cathedral. You can easily get to the ancient University from here, following the little Calle Calderón.

University
Opposite the front of the University is the Patio de las Escuelas and around it are buildings in Plateresque style. The southwest side is occupied by a long range of buildings. Here you can see the Hospistal del Estudio, built in 1533 as a hospice for students. It is now the Rector’s office. On the right side of Hospital del Estudio is the Escuelas Menores (Lesser Schools). You can enter the courtyard through a double-arched doorway. The ancient library has amazing decorative elements including a fine XV century ceiling painting known as “Cielo de Salamanca”

Do not miss the plateresque staircase with decorative elements which reminds of an ancient students’ tradition. They used to write their name on the university walls after their graduation using bull blood.
