Salamanca

Salamanca is a city in Western Spain and it is the capital of the community of Castilla y León. The city lies by the River Tormes and was declared World Heritage Site in 1985 as well as European Capital of Culture in 2002.

Salamanca hosts one of the most ancient and prestigious Universities in Europe and lots of students continue to come from all parts of Spain and other European countries to study at its University.

The city preserves amazing examples of Romanic, Gothic, Plateresque and Baroque monuments. With its cloisters and façades, every single corner of the city has a unique and special charm.

The student life combined with tourism give the city a friendly and dynamic atmosphere.

In Salamanca the winters are cold and the summers very hot. Spring and autumn are the best periods to visit the city because of the milder temperatures.

The official language is Spanish (Castilian).
